Heian Shodan


It means peaceful mind, belongs to Shuri-te from master Itosu school. Heian katas have been derived from Kosokun Dai kata by master Itosu. This kata is mostley practiced after Haian Nidan. Changing direction when executing a front kick is a particular point to be learned. The techniques used in this kata are Hiji sasae uke, Shuto chudan uke, Chudan yoko uke, and Age uke. The number of movements is twenty-six, and the time required is about forty seconds. This kata is practiced in the seventh kyu level.
